This Christmas Ring is a lovely, simple way to celebrate learning to crochet, colour and Christmas, and hopefully it will become something you’ll look forward to bringing out of the Christmas box for many years to come.
Learning any new skill is all about practice, practice, practice and you'll get plenty of that making one of these beautiful decorative Christmas rings. The stitches are simple and the repetition is great for improving your crochet technique, but the design also makes the ring very forgiving, if there happens to be 1 or 2 eccentricities! Finish off with a simple crocheted bow, or if you're up for a challenge you can add leaves and berries.
This crochet-along is ideal for absolute beginners, anyone with some crochet basics, if you just want some creative company or to refresh forgotten skills. Join Sharon from Sew Silly Lily in the Front Room Gallery at Helensburgh Art Hub if you fancy having a go. We’ll provide the crochet pattern and some materials, but it’s important to have your own crochet hook and to start putting together some yarns of your own. We’ll start with a few circles today and provide the skills you need to finish your Christmas Ring at home.
What you'll need to crochet-along. . .
a 4.0mm crochet hook (rubber handled ones are better to work with)
4 ply, double knit, aran, worsted, sport weight yarn in as many colours as you like*
You can find all the supplies you need for this workshop at Fabric & Finery at 3 West Clyde St, Helensburgh with delivery available!
*This make is great for stash-busting and using up odds and ends. As little as 1 metre is useful. If you’re yarn buying from scratch try charity shops or look for Scheepjes Catona, Ricorumi, Sirdar Happy Cotton or similar in local yarn shops.
Taking this workshop is Sharon from Sew Silly Lily; a graduate of Glasgow School of Art with a lifelong passion for textiles, craft and design.
