The Winter Wrap is a short scarf, buttoned at the neck to keep you snug and a cosy layer to tuck under your collar when it starts to get chilly. It’s a great, practical first make for absolute crochet beginners.
The wrap is super-simple, crocheted in short rows, using just 1 stitch, over and over again. Repetition is great practice when you’re learning a new skill, and the chunky yarn will help make stitches easier to see and the whole wrap quicker to crochet. There’s plenty time to whip up one for yourself and maybe 1 or 2 for Christmas gifts!
This crochet-along is ideal for absolute beginners, anyone with some crochet basics, if you just want some creative company or to refresh forgotten skills. Join Sharon from Sew Silly Lily in the Front Room Gallery at Helensburgh Art Hub if you fancy having a go. We’ll provide the crochet pattern, but it’s important to have your own crochet hook and to choose your own yarns to work with. We’ll start the scarf today and provide the skills you need to finish your scarf at home.
What you'll need to crochet-along. . .
an 8.0mm crochet hook (rubber handled hooks are better, especially with chunky yarns)
approx. 100g/ 90-100m of chunky yarn (that suggests 6.0-8.0mm needles)*
1 feature button (about 60 ligne/38mm)
You can find all the supplies you need for this workshop at Fabric & Finery at 3 West Clyde St, Helensburgh with delivery available!
*I used Drops Andes and Stylecraft Softie Chunky for the samples. Think about the composition of your yarn when choosing as you don’t want something itchy around your neck!
Taking this workshop is Sharon from Sew Silly Lily; a graduate of Glasgow School of Art with a lifelong passion for textiles, craft and design.
