Collection: Brian McFie
Brian McFie is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art. He studied there under the tutelage of Barbara Rae and Jack Knox between 1979 and 1983. Whilst there, he was deeply influenced by American Abstract Expressionist painting. His influences include Cy Twombly, Robert Rauschenberg, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler and Willem De Kooning. He is also deeply influenced by the Bauhaus movement.
After Art School, he followed a career as a musician (guitarist). His works are intertwined with music, in fact, the two disciplines are inexorably linked. His work is carried out whilst absorbing or reacting to sound. Over the years, he has followed an abiding love of abstract art, but drawing from life is at the core of his practice. He uses the rigour of that discipline to inform his output. Brian believes drawing to be the essence of good art.
